An Abuja court has ordered that a 27-year-old man be canned for stealing some alcoholic drinks from a hotel’s wine shop

The accused person pleaded guilty and promised not to commit such crime again
An Abuja court has ordered that a man Frank Ugochukwu, 27, be canned for stealing some alcoholic drinks from a hotel’s wine shop, Punch reports.
Justice Umar Kagarko of the Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday, October 26, ordered that Frank be given seven strokes of cane. Ugochukwu was arraigned before the court on a two-count charge bordering on criminal trespass and theft. Having pleaded guilty of the offence, Ugochukwu however promised not to commit such crime again.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor had earlier informed the court that Stanley Emmanuelof Kabiru Hotel at 32 Ladoke Boulevard way in Garki district of Abuja had reported the matter at the Garki police station.
Emmanuel while making report on October 21, said the accused person stole some drinks from the hotel’s wine shop. The prosecutor also said Ugochukwu was a former staff of the hotel.
“On the same date, October 21, he (Ugochukwu) went to the hotel and entered the wine shop and stole two big bottles of McDowell’s gin, one bottle of Red Label gin and a bottle of Andre wine,” he said. Emmanuel put the value of the drinks at N9,500.
The police said the stolen items were recovered from Ugochukwu’s possession and he admitted to committing the offence. The police also said the offence was contrary to sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, last week, a 71-year-old man was arraigned before the court for stealing from the Redeemed Christain Church of God.
The man, the police said, had duped a pastor of the church with promises of getting him a land.
