Niger Delta youths urge Buhari to inaugurate NDDC board

Niger Delta youths have made an urgent appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari

President Buhari has been reminded of the need to immediately swear-in the NDDC board to avoid tension in the Niger Delta region


The youths warn that there is tension in the Niger Delta 

This is due to the delay in the inauguration of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) board The Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Leaders has made an urgent appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to inaugurate and swear-in the NDDC board.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, October 28, the leader of the group, Comrade Emeni Ibe warned that the delay in the constitution of the board is causing tension in the Niger Delta region. 

Ibe said: “We wish to state that the issue is building up tension in the region as the inauguration of the board and will bring rapid development and empower more persons in the Niger Delta region. “We urge and appeal to Mr President to continue to do the needful with his constitutional power and inaugurate the NDDC board of directors.”

He continued: “We have confidence in the new board of NDDC directors as it is made up of people of proven integrity, well experienced, expertise, competence, capability and patriotic zeal to ensure positive change that would re-position the NDDC in line with the change mantra.’’ On his part, the director of media and publicity of the group, Comrade Adokiye Mujiton said the group is making efforts to ameliorate the tension in the region by pressuring the government to do the needful. His words: “We are advocating for the immediate swearing-in of the already screened and confirmed board of the NDDC. 

“The NDDC is one of the interventionist agency in the Niger Delta region that everybody relies on for development. “Since over 10 months there have been a sole administrator in that board, so we are calling on Mr President to as a matter of urgency by quickly calling on those who have been confirmed by the National Assembly and swear them in immediately. “We believe it will encourage the peace that is much needed in the Niger Delta region.’’ 

Meanwhile, President Buhari unveiled the Petroleum Industry Road-map at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Aso Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday, October 27. The road-map has been code named 7 Big Wins by the ministry of petroleum. According to industry experts, it is a well thought-out seven short and medium priorities aimed at growing Nigeria’s oil and gas industry between 2015 and 2019.
